FASTag vehicle classes and tag colours
The class written into your tag decides your rate, because the reader never weighs anything or counts axles. Get it wrong in one direction and the plaza flags you; get it wrong in the other and you quietly overpay on every single trip.

Why the class must match the registration certificate
The plaza charges whatever class the tag declares. If a car is carrying a tag issued in a heavier class, every crossing costs more than it should and nobody will tell you — the transaction succeeds, so there is no error to notice. In the other direction, a tag declaring a lighter class than the vehicle is a mismatch, and mismatches surface as failed transactions or penalties.
The tag colour is a deliberate visual shorthand for its class. If your car carries anything other than a violet tag, something was issued wrongly and it is worth correcting before the next trip.
Two-wheelers
Two-wheelers are exempt from toll on national highways and no FASTag class is issued for them. If someone offers you a tag for a motorcycle, treat that as a warning about the seller rather than a product.
